About OptiPowder SS 316L

Stainless Steel 316L (UNS S31603)

Stainless Steel 316L is Fe-Ni-Cr-Mo high-strength austenitic steel with excellent corrosion resistance. Corrosion resistance can be further enhanced by post-processing such as solution annealing.

Key Applications

316L is also used in aerospace and automotive applications such as bolts, fasteners, pumps and fittings. Due to its corrosion resistance, the material is also used widely for the instruments for medical use.

Properties

The alloy possesses good weldability and is therefore an excellent choice for laser and electron beam additive manufacturing. The alloy is also used for cladding to provide a corrosion resistant surface to tougher substrates to enhance their service life in mildly corrosive environments, such as domestic appliances.
